Mainsails

Your mainsail is the powerhouse of your boat and here at Rolly Tasker Sails Australia & New Zealand we will work with you to design and build a mainsail that will give you excellent performance and longevity. Some key considerations that we need to be taken into account are cloth type and cloth weight; sail cut – cross-cut or tri-radial and batten layout; fully battened, semi-battened.

While most mainsails are permanently attached to the boat’s boom and are hoisted up a track on the mast, there is an increasing trend toward both in-mast and in-boom furling mainsails. Rolly Tasker in-mast and in-boom furlers feature a smooth, efficient sail shape, multiple roach options and vertical or horizontal battens to optimise sail shape and make it easy to furl.

Yesterday we went for a shake down sail with the new sails and they look great, we had perfect conditions for testing the staysail with a couple of 20 knot gusts. The only sail we did not try out was the new spinnaker as we decided to wait for lighter winds to try that for the first time. Everything fits perfectly, the sail shapes look fantastic. Rolly Tasker Mainsail Types

Standard

For the day sailor or harbour cruiser, a leech-battened mainsail is a sound and cost-effective choice.

For the offshore cruiser or twilight racer a semi-battened mainsail, usually with a full top batten and three or four leech battens, improves sail shape and performance.

If your looking for value for money then our standard batten layout mainsails are the right place to start.

In-Boom Furling

Often reserved for larger custom yacht builds, the in-boom furling mainsail makes mainsail handling a breeze.

They demand the most comprehensive finishing and design details to ensure they work effectively and efficiently. Full Battened

Fully battened mainsails are a very popular option enabling slightly greater sail area through a larger roach and improved sail shape and longevity.

They also provides great benefits for sail handling when being used with a lazy jack system or lazy jack boom bag. The full length battens help guide the sail into the bag and also help the sail fold down neatly,

For larger yachts its recommended to accompany these sails with luff cars or premium sails slides to reduce friction when hoisting and dropping

In-Mast Furling

There are becoming more common every year as any production spar manufactures add this to their list of options when purchasing a new yacht.

Now found on all sizes of boats, the in-mast furling mainsail makes mainsail handling a breeze.
