ABOUT CODE C’S

"Hi Sam.  Forgot to let you know how the Code C went. It’s fantastic had it out the other weekend in about 7 to 9knots sailing at about 60 degrees and not even trying were doing around 6.5 knots. We were sail with a 11.6 sea wind cat and our Bavaria 33 cruiser with the code 55 left him for dead. He wasn’t happy but we were. Great investment" — Colin Stone
We got a Rolly Tasker Code C made for our Catalina 320 a few weeks back. We are very impressed with the Sail and with the customer service we received .  Good to see old fashion quality business is still alive.  I know where we buy our next sail.  Thank you guys heaps — Reiner Gudd - Brisbane

THE ULTIMATE OFF-WIND CRUISING SAIL

Modern yachts tend to have short, non-overlapping or even self-tacking headsails. These are effective when sailing close-hauled upwind, however, when bearing off these small headsails become progressively less efficient. To maintain your speed, fun and competitiveness, different headsails for all headings are needed.

Rolly Tasker Sails has now created the versatile reaching sail for everyone. The Code C is a mixture of a Code 0 and an Asymmetrical Spinnaker that replaces other light wind cruising sails. It is sometimes referred to as a “Tweener” sail. It can be set in wind-angles from 65 through to 135 degrees and if using a spinnaker pole it can even be used up to 180 degrees, meaning a wide range, from a close reach to running straight downwind.

The name Code C stands for Cruising because this sail is so easy to handle being set flying with its own furler. Just hoist the rolled-up sail, then unfurl whenever ready and off you go! The easy way to gybe this sail is to furl it, gybe the boat and unfurl on the new tack. In effect, this new sail is as easy to use as a genoa.

The integrated, anti-torsion luff cable is made from pre-stressed, large diameter Dyneema rope and the straight luff ensures that the sail is always furled evenly. In this way, the sail can be furled with less effort and less wear and tear, extending its life-span considerably.

The new Code C sail is made from Premium Challenge Fibermax nylon in different sizes and cloth weights from 32 to 150 square metres, according to the size of your vessel.

If you sail short handed or are more of a cruiser than a racer then this is the sail you need!

SELECTING YOUR NEW “CODE C”

WHAT SIZE DO I REQUIRE?

The luff length is the deciding factor when choosing the right size Code C.  As a general rule, if you are going to fly the Code C just above the front pulpit, then the luff length should be about the same length that the mast height is above the deck.

For a more accurate measurement, raise a tape measure up on the Spinnaker halyard until it’s at the full hoist position and measure down to where you would like the tack of the Code C furler to be – we’ll call this measurement "A".  If you have a bow sprite, this would be to the end of the bow sprite.  If you don’t, it will most likely be to the top of the forward railing (pulpit).

The size of the Code C is determined by the luff length. The luff length of the Code C should be measurement "A" less 600mm or the nearest size under.  For example, if the A measurement is 14.00 then the luff should be 14.00 - 0.6 = 13.40.  In referring to the sizing chart below you will see that the correct sail to choose is our #6 with luff length of 13.25
